AI-powered platform improves nurse utilization and patient flow while reducing extended hours.
HOLMDEL, N.J., Dec. 5, 2025 — Smirta Innovations, a New Jersey-based digital health company dedicated to improving how cancer care is delivered, announces results from its recent partnership with NewMexico Cancer Center (NMCC).After working with the OncoSmart platform, NMCC realized a 27% reduction inpatient delays and a 25% decrease in extended hours, resulting from improved nurse load balancing throughout the day. They also realized improved nurse utilization, indicating a strong alignment between treatment chair utilization and staff capacity.
NMCC implemented Smirta’s OncoSmart® platform in November 2024 to better manage midday scheduling peaks that had frequently left nurses overwhelmed while operating at or above capacity during the busiest hours of the day. The center also sought to minimize patient wait times and reduce extended hours.
These measurable improvements reflect the platform’s holistic approach, which enables NMCC to coordinate labs, treatment and physician visits in a single, continuous patient experience—reducing wait times and balancing workloads across the nursing team.
“OncoSmart has transformed how we manage daily operations,” said Barbara L. McAneny, MD, Medical Oncologist and CEO of New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants. “The platform gives us a complete view of our daily schedule and resources, allowing patients to complete all their cancer care needs during one coordinated visit. This eliminates the need to require a patient to return twice to complete all these tasks. We’re very pleased with the implementation and the results.”
With 29 infusion chairs and a centralized scheduling team managing all appointments, NMCC’s implementation of OncoSmart has improved nurse utilization and patient satisfaction. The AI-powered nurse assignment tool ensures equitable patient distribution, creating an objective, predictable process that enhances operational efficiency to reduce the costs associated with unplanned extended hours.
“New Mexico Cancer Center’s results highlight how AI-driven scheduling and nurse assignment can solve long-standing workflow challenges in oncology,” said Ram Iyengar, CEO, Smirta Innovations. “By using real-time data to balance patient and staff capacity, they’ve demonstrated what’s possible when technology supports both operational and clinical excellence.”
